when the book the shack came out, it drew cartloads of criticism from many conservative, evangelical leaders, who were quick to dismiss the book out of hand because a number of provocative elements within its pages. at the time, i published an article challenging such a response. i was not willing to dismiss the book because of some inherent theological controversies. it was my opinion that the book had gotten much right and was a great tool to open discussion on such important topics as the nature of the Trinity and the problem of evil in our world. having seen an advanced screening of the upcoming movie, my opinion hasn’t changed.
